Why I am Going on the World Race
Travel. The word travel connotes the idea of adventure, of exploring the unknown. Through the World Race that little inkling of an idea has suddenly become a reality that I will be able to act upon come end of May. I can hardly contain my excitement. I can’t hardly contain my excitement not just because I get to travel, but because I get to serve the Lord and further his Kingdom, while exploring the unknown (or at least the unknown to me).
Throughout my time in middle and high school I went on a few in-country mission trips that helped me grow in my Faith in God. These trips also helped me discover that I enjoy traveling. I also found that every time I came home from a mission trip I always wanted to go back out and continue the work that we had done. And with all that being said, at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year, I came across the Costa Rica and Guatemala trip while I was looking at the rest of the World Race site. But I didn’t want to go (at least not right now) on the 9 or 11 month trips, so I began digging and searching some more. Afterwards, I prayed about the possibility of going on the trip for many days, and found myself on the fence between applying and not applying. The universal “What are the pros? What are the cons?” questions running through my head.
Then one day at a Sunday morning church service, the pastor of the church I attend said something that made it seem like God was giving me my answer through the pastor’s sermon. The pastor talked about how God uses Moses to “set my [His] people free”. Then he said “God is saying, hey you! Right where you are, I want to use you to set my people free.” The pastor kept repeating that simple phrase, “I want to use you” over and over again throughout the service. At the end of that service I realized that God had given me my answer and I knew that I needed to apply.
As Bilbo Baggins once said “I’m going on an adventure” and fortunately for me, I am too. I hope that you will feel led to join me in some way on this new adventure that the Lord has opened up to me.
If you feel led, whether it be financially or in prayer, your support would be greatly appreciated.
Hey Regan, so this is a semester mission trip? Do you know how long you’ll be going and specifically what you’ll be doing? When do you leave? Keep us posted as you walk through this adventure! (I love your quote! 🙂
Hi Mrs. Coppersmith! Yes this is a semester mission trip. It is two months long trip, and we leave at the beginning of June. We are going to be doing a lot of community outreach and development, through local church, children, and family ministries as well as a surf club and art mural projects. I will gladly keep you posted! 🙂
